The size and capacity of the arena have been set.
Capacity and layout
will have a capacity of up to 15,000 seated and standing spectators for culture
and music events. For sport events, e.g. handball matches, the capacity will be
up to 12,500 spectators. The arena will be flexible, and it will be possible to
scale down to use smaller parts of the arena and utilise the seating capacity.
The arena will have
a floor area of up to 35,000 square metres with large foyer areas and plenty of
room for cafés, restaurants and bars, and lots of space for the audience. There
will also be extensive service areas for performers, athletes and service
Design and layout
The design is an
expression of a strong Scandinavian design tradition in which quality, function
and design form a synthesis, which gives Copenhagen Arena a distinct Nordic
The building will
have an open ground floor and a plateau that is accessible at first-floor level
– it will invite a rich urban life with staircases and attractive urban spaces
for residents as well as visitors.
The arena will be
designed so that most of the audience are on three sides of the
stage/track/court. However, it will also be possible to have an audience on the
fourth side for sport events and special cultural events. Similar arenas already exist, e.g. in Liverpool, Oslo,
and Herning, Jutland.
